We were recently invited to help with redecoration work in Somerford, Cheshire. The work required included redecoration to their lounge, main bathroom, en-suite and master bedroom. Our client had just had plastering work done so, where necessary, base coat emulsion was applied to the areas prior to painting.

Applying a Mist Coat

A base coat application can also be named a mist coat. It is essential when preparing fresh plaster for decoration. Why is this? It will work to reduce the absorbency of the plaster when applying further coats and it will work to seal the surface. Essentially a water-based emulsion is watered down and applied to the entire area. Some individuals use large brushes and others use rollers for this application.

It is important to remember that the plaster may also need preparation. Any imperfections will need to be sanded to produce a flat and seamless surface, when painted. Further coats of paint are then applied to the desired finish.
